Into the Expanse (Conclusion)

Having sent the Civilian Federation scientist back to the Tiberius, the away team decided to investigate the source of the problems on Orgun III. Scans revealed a power source 5 km below ground coming from a cavern a few clicks north of the city.

The crew arrived at the caverns and headed in. The journey was not easy as the cavern was narrow and winding at times and filled with hazards. While traveling deeper into the caverns, the team came across a room seemingly filled with some kind of fog. Tricorder scans revealed this cavern was filled with a poisonous gas, but the team was able to carefully traverse the ledge of this room and safely avoided the poisonous gas.

The team continued along for a few more minutes until they found another room that the team found was shooting hot steam. After a few moments and some calculations, the crew was mostly able to traverse the room, dodging the steaming hot steam. However, Lt. Cmdr MacKenzie, while traversing the room, slipped a bit and was hit by one of these jets of steam. However, MacKenzie only suffered a few scrapes and cuts and was able to continue.

At the end of the caverns, the team found an unusual metallic door, which opened when they approached it. This appeared to be an elevator that took the team deeper underground where they discovered a room filled with ancient computers (yet somehow still more advanced than what the team knew). The crew was able to study the machine and figure out a way to make some temporary repairs of the machine. Chief Engineer Foxwell estimated the repairs would hold for approximately 8 month, buying the Lormeans some vital time to evacuate. However, prior to fixing the machine, a powerful earthquake knocked some boulders onto the Doctor, though Lt. Cmdrs MacKenzie and Torc were able to quickly free the doctor from under the rubble.

Once out of the caverns, the away team and the scientists assembled in the conference room with Captain Ral to decide what to do next. After a rousing discussion, the crew was tasked to go back to the surface and make sure all of the scientists equipment is either removed or destroyed to prevent further contamination of the planet (per the Prime Directive). The team met with the Chief Minister once again, who continued to urge the team to help them. Reluctantly, and with Captain Ral's approval (but not Starfleet), a few items were 'not found' in the recovery.

The Tiberius is heading back to Narendra Station to transport the scientist to the base and to await their next mission.
